There are no fans as ravenous as black metal fans. Fans of this genre will go to the ends of the earth, not only for their bands, but also to prove their worth to any other metal fan by being as ‘trve kvlt’ as they can. This however does not usually apply to the bands themselves who deliver their sound time and time again. One such band are Abkehr, as a little under two years see’s the German black metal band returning for their sophomore album ‘In Blut’.

Now, Abkehr released their debut album ‘In Feuer’ (in fire) in 2019 and now we have ‘In Blut’ (in blood) and coupled with the fact that each album contains four tracks that are cryptically listed as I-IV gives the vibe that a theme is going on. You’re damned right there’s a theme going on and that theme is delivering quality black metal which invokes excellent memories of the genre in its prime during the second wave of black metal in the early 90s having all the power of Darkthrone and Graupel as well as Paysage d’Hiver and Mgła. Expectantly, this means that ‘In Blut’ is raw with its pummelling drums, driven tremolo guitars and scathing haunting vocals all delivered through a wall of sound that never ceases to hammer the point home what these guys do and stand for.

Abekhr have released another solid album of black metal that fans of the genre should definitely get their greasy, corpse paint ridden little paws all over ‘In Blut’. It won’t win any new fans over to black metal, but the already converted will love every damned bit.
