A DAY IN THE LIFE OF STORMWIND

STORMWIND was founded in 1996 in Stockholm, Sweden…

and can be described as the brain-child of guitarist and mastermind Thomas Wolf. Wolf who was Swedish Kyokushin Karate champion and sparring partner of Dolph Lundgren was soon discovered as a brilliant guitar player in Sweden. Stormwind became the first Swedish rockband sponsored by the famous Movie Festival palace in Cannes and after this tour Wolf made the decision to put up a stable line-up.

Metal Digest spent a day in their life.

Welcome to Metal Digest!

Thank you for taking the time out of your busy life to spend the day with us.

Thank you for having me.

Where are you these days?

I’m in Italy.

Please describe your surroundings.

I have the pleasure to live in lago di Como in Lombardia which is a wonderful place, Lake life and dramatic mountains with trees.

What are you currently working on?

Promoting the release of the long awaited Stormwind album from Sweden Rock festival `Legacy Live !

Being a professional musician takes a lot of discipline and organizational skills. How do you start the working day?

Well after swimming and breakfast I always read and playing guitar to catch the moment and finding new tones to make a composition.

What’s the dynamic between the band members?

Well, Stormwind is a dynamic band as all the members live now in different parts of the world and are top musicians who played with a lot of famous artists.

Who’s the control freak, who’s more likely to be late for the recordings and who is the glue that holds everyone together?

I’m the conductor of the orchestra, my singer Vikström is always late. My drummer is just happy and I guess I’m the glue for everything haha!

What’s your creative process like? Do you all get together to jam or you prefer working alone from time to time?

I always compose alone in my home studio, then we rehearse from the demo I make… and jam to get the whole picture of the song.

Lunch time! What are we having? Pick a meal an we’ll bring the drinks.

Ohh! We will have Caprese and some grilled branzino and wash it down with an ice-cold glass of Chardonnay from the Aosta valley, Thanks for the Aperol!

How well do you plan an album?

Well, sometimes its like a 2 year plan to compose ,record and promote the record …A masterplan!

Is the room for improvisation?

Yes, for the solos. Me and my keyboard guy Kaspar always improvise and then play it live as it was recorded.

What were the most joyous, fulfilling times of your career so far?

Playing live at the movie palace in Cannes 1998 and Sweden Rock Festival 2003 before Whitesnake. However, I love the studio time together which is the most creative time for me as a composer.

What would you like to achieve as a band for the next 5 years?

Serenity and the best of all …health

It’s the end of the day. How do you unwind and relax?

I take my S.U.P board out and then cruise with my boat free like an eagle.

Thank you for the wonderful interview.

Until we meet again,
